Definition of First Wave Equalism:
It is being called “Fourth Wave Feminism”, generally. Which I think makes people feel discluded and gives the idea that it is about Women’s rights.
It is about:
Fighting sexism (on all counts), which should include fighting the social oppression that men have suffered over the years (ie with the way they dress, they have to be macho, boys don’t cry/ wear make-up/ wear pink/ wear a skirt). Men should have the freedom to dress, act how they want.
This should also include females sexism toward males - which seems to be too prevalent in a lot of feminists and feminist blogs.
Fighting against the social norm to make jokes about “women belonging in the kitchen” or “putting women in ‘their place’”. Jokes like this fuel sexism and make us desensitized when the issues are very real.
Fighting against spousal abuse, regardless of gender.
Fighting against all forms of gender oppression.
Fighting homophobia, and prejudice toward trans-gendered people and non - gendered people - also making sure no-one discriminates toward cis-gendered, straight people in the process, which I have seen and experienced.
Nobody should be discriminated against based on their sexual preference.
Fighting species-ism, That cow is no different than that dog.
Fighting racism. (this includes white on black, black on white, asian on black, asian on hispanic, hispanic on asian etc. etc.)
Fighting ableism, if a person can’t see, can’t hear, can’t walk etc. etc., this does not give them less rights as someone who can. It also does not give them more.
Equal rights for all.
xoxo
